REAR ADMIRAL JOHN J. MAZACH

APPOINTED TO RESERVE FORCES POLICY BOARD

Secretary of Defense William Perry has announced the designation of Rear Admiral John J. Mazach as a member of the Reserve Forces Policy Board. He is the director, Strategy and Policy Office of the Chief of Naval Operations.

The 22-member Reserve Forces Policy Board was created by Congress in 1952. Acting through the assistant secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, the board serves as the principle policy advisor to the Secretary of Defense on reserve component matters. Members include the assistant secretary responsible for reserve affairs from each of the military departments, and active and reserve component general and flag officers representing all Services, including the Coast Guard.

Admiral Mazach graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1966 and was designated a naval aviator in October 1967. During his aviation career he has accumulated more than 3700 flight hours and has held many command positions.

Admiral Mazach's military awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with two gold stars, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, the Air Medal with eight strike/flight awards and the Navy Commendation Medal with combat "V".

Admiral Mazach is married to the former Pat Waggoner of Nashville, Tennessee. They have two daughters, Leigh and Meg.
