GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENTS

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has made the following nominations:

Army Lt. Gen. Larry R. Jordan has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as director of the Army Staff, Washington, D.C. Jordan is currently serving as deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany.

Army Lt. Gen. Leon J. LaPorte has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as deputy commanding general and chief of staff, U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort McPherson, Ga. LaPorte is currently serving as commanding general, III Corps and Fort Hood, Fort Hood, Texas.

Army Lt. Gen. James C. Riley has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Riley is currently serving as commanding general, V Corps, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany.

Army Maj. Gen. Benjamin S. Griffin has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as deputy chief of staff for programs, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C. Griffin is currently serving as commanding general, 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Hood, Texas.

Army Maj. Gen. William S. Wallace has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as commanding general, V Corps, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany. Wallace is currently serving as commander, Joint Warfighting Center, and director, Joint Training, U.S. Joint Forces Command, Suffolk, Va.
