Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has made the following announcements:
GENERAL
Army Lt. Gen. Leon J. LaPorte has been nominated for appointment to the rank of general with assignment as commander in chief, United Nations Command and Combined Forces Command, and commanding general, U.S. Forces Korea. LaPorte is currently serving as the deputy commanding general and chief of staff, U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort McPherson, Ga.
VICE ADMIRAL
Navy Vice Adm. Richard W. Mayo has been nominated for appointment to the rank of vice admiral with assignment as commander, Naval Network Warfare Command, Norfolk, Va. Mayo is currently serving as director, Space and Electronic Warfare, N6, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.
