Secretary of Defense William J. Perry has announced the selection of members
for the 1995 Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS).
DACOWITS is composed of civilian women and men throughout the United States
who are prominent in the professions, industry and public service. Members are
appointed for a three-year term, and serve without compensation. Each member
serves as an individual and not as an official representative of any group or
organization.
The committee was founded in 1951 by Secretary of Defense George C. Marshall
during the Korean War to assist DOD in the recruitment and retention of
military service women. During the ensuing 44 years, the committee has
provided advice to the Secretary of Defense on policies relating to the
effective use of women in the Services.
The new committee members will begin their tenure with DACOWITS at the 1995
Spring Conference in Washington, D.C. this April.
