GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has nominated Army Lt. Gen. Kevin P. Byrnes for appointment to the rank of general with assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, Va. Byrnes is currently serving as the director of the Army Staff, Washington, D.C.
