GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENTS

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has nominated Army Lt. Gen. Burwell B. Bell III for appointment to the rank of general with assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany. Bell is currently serving as commanding general, III Corps and Fort Hood, Fort Hood, Texas.

LIEUTENANT GENERAL

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has made the following nominations:

Army Maj. Gen. Richard A. Hack has been nominated for appointment to rank of lieutenant general with assignment as deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Materiel Command, Alexandria, Va. Hack is currently serving as chief of staff, U.S. Army Materiel Command, Alexandria, Va.

Army Maj. Gen Jerry L. Sinn has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general with assignment as military deputy for budget to the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management and Comptroller), Washington, D.C. Sinn is currently serving as director of the army budget, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management and Comptroller), Washington, D.C.

MAJOR GENERAL

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Eric K. Shinseki announced today that Army Maj. Gen. Hubert L. Hartsell is being assigned as deputy for army budget, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management and Comptroller), Washington, D.C. Hartsell is currently serving as director, Operations and Support, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management and Comptroller), Washington, D.C.

BRIGADIER GENERAL

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has nominated Army National Guard Col. Michael H. Sumrall for promotion to the rank of brigadier general. Sumrall is currently serving as the adjutant general, Alabama National Guard, Montgomery, Ala.

Army Chief of Staff Eric K. Shinseki announced today that Army National Guard Brig. Gen. George A. Alexander is being assigned as deputy surgeon general for the Army National Guard, Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Army, Falls Church, Va. Alexander is currently serving as assistant surgeon general for mobilization, readiness and National Guard affairs, Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Army, Falls Church, Va.
