Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Douglas J. Feith travels the Republic of Korea and Japan this week to confer with allies on the full range of regional and global security issues affecting the region. Together with plans for upcoming Korea-U.S. security consultations, meetings will include discussions about missile defense, the war on terrorism, the ongoing effort in Afghanistan and the serious threat posed by North Korea's nuclear programs.
Japan and South Korea are valued and steadfast allies of the United States in a strategically vital area of the world. Feith will visit Seoul, Korea on Nov. 6, where he will meet Korean Minister of National Defense Lee, and Foreign Minister Choi. He will also visit the demilitarized zone. He then will travel to Tokyo where he will meet with Japanese Foreign Minister Kawaguchi, Chief Cabinet Secretary Fukuda, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Abe, Defense Minister Ishiba, and other senior Japanese government officials on Nov. 8.
