Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has made the following nominations:
Army Lt. Gen. John P. Abizaid has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general with assignment as deputy, Combined Forces Command, U.S. Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. Abizaid is currently serving as director, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.
Army Lt. Gen. George W. Casey Jr. has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general with assignment as director, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C. Casey is currently serving as director for Strategic Plans and Policy, J-5, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.
