GENERAL OFFICER ASSIGNMENTS

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Eric K. Shinseki announced today the assignments of the following officers:

MAJOR GENERAL

Maj. Gen. Larry D. Gottardi, chief of public affairs, Office of the Secretary of the Army, Washington, D.C., to deputy chief of staff, G-1, U.S. Army Forces Command, Fort McPherson, Ga., with a report date to be determined.

Maj. Gen. Craig D. Hackett, deputy commander, Joint Sub Regional Command Southeast, Turkey, to commanding general, U.S. Army Security Assistance Command, Fort Belvoir, Va., with a report date to be determined.

Maj. Gen. Antonio M. Taguba, acting director of the Army Staff, Washington, D.C., to deputy commanding general for Support, Third U.S. Army, Fort McPherson, Ga., with a report date to be determined.

Maj. Gen. William G. Webster, Jr., deputy commanding general, Third U.S. Army, with duty as deputy commanding general, Combined Forces Land Component Command, Camp Doha, Kuwait, to commanding general, 3d Infantry Division (Mechanized) and Fort Stewart, Fort Stewart, Ga., with a report date to be determined.

Brig. Gen. (Promotable) Fred D. Robinson, Jr., assistant division commander (Maneuver), 1st Armored Division, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany, to director of operations, readiness and mobilization, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C., with a report date to be determined.

Brig. Gen. (Promotable) Stephen M. Speakes, assistant division commander (Support), 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized), Fort Hood, Texas, to deputy commanding general for operations, Third U.S. Army, Fort Stewart, Ga., with report date to be determined.

Brig. Gen. James A. Coggin, assistant division commander (Support), 2d Infantry Division, Eighth U.S. Army, Korea, to vice director of the Army Staff, Washington, D.C., with a report date to be determined.

Brig. Gen. James E. Simmons, commanding general, U.S. Army Safety Center, Fort Rucker, Ala., to deputy commanding general, III Corps and Fort Hood, Fort Hood, Texas, with a report date to be determined.

Col. (Promotable) Carter F. Ham, deputy director, J-8, U.S. Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., to deputy commanding general for training and readiness, I Corps and Fort Lewis, Fort Lewis, Wash., with a report date to be determined.
