Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has made the following nominations:
GENERAL
Army Lt. Gen. John P. Abizaid has been nominated for appointment to the rank of general and assignment as commander, U.S. Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. Abizaid is currently serving as the deputy commander (forward), Combined Forces Command, U.S. Central Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., and is deployed to Iraq.
REAR ADMIRAL
Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) Louis V. Iasiello has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral and assignment as chief of chaplains, U.S. Navy. Iasiello is currently serving as chaplain of the Marine Corps, deputy chief of chaplains and deputy director of religious ministries, N097B, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Arlington, Va.
