Flag Officer Announcement
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has nominated Navy Rear Adm. David C. Nichols, Jr., for appointment to the rank of vice admiral and assignment as commander, U.S. Naval Forces, U.S. Central Command, and commander, Fifth Fleet, in Bahrain. Nichols is currently serving as commander, Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center, Fallon, Nev.
