Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the president has nominated Army Lt. Gen. George W. Casey, Jr., for appointment to the rank of general and assignment as vice chief of staff, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C. He is currently serving as director, Joint Staff, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.
