General Officer Announcement
Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has nominated Army Maj. Gen. David W. Barno for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as commander, Military Operations – Afghanistan, United States Central Command, Kabul, Afghanistan. Barno is currently serving as the commanding general, United States Army Training Center and Fort Jackson, Fort Jackson, S.C.
