Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Vern Clark announced the following flag officer assignments:
Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) Christopher C. Ames is being assigned as commander, Amphibious Group Three, San Diego, Calif. Ames is currently serving as director for Strategy, Plans, Policy, and Programs, J5, U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) Derwood C. Curtis is being assigned as commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group Five, San Diego, Calif. Curtis is currently serving as commander, Naval Surface Group Two/deputy commander, U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command, Mayport, Fla.
Navy Rear Adm. (lower half) Samuel J. Locklear, III, is being assigned as deputy director, Surface Warfare Division, office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Arlington, Va. Locklear is currently serving as commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group Five, San Diego, Calif.
