Navy Flag Officer Announcements

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld announced today that the President has nominated:

Adm. Michael G. Mullen for reappointment to the grade of admiral and assignment as commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Europe and commander, Regional Command South, Naples, Italy. Mullen is currently serving as Vice Chief of Naval Operations, Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

Rear Adm. Justin D. McCarthy, Supply Corps, for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and with assignment as director for Material Readiness and Logistics, N4, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. McCarthy is currently serving as commander, Naval Supply Systems Command /Chief of Supply Corps, Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Rear Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as commander, SEVENTH Fleet, Yokosuka, Japan. Greenert is currently serving as deputy and chief of staff, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Rear Adm. Kevin J. Cosgriff, for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as deputy commander and chief of staff, U.S. Atlantic Fleet/Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Va. Cosgriff is currently serving as director, Warfare Integration and Assessment Division, N70, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.

Rear Adm. Donald C. Arthur, Jr., Senior Health Care Executive for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as chief of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery and surgeon general, Washington, D.C. Arthur is currently serving as commander, National Naval Medical Center/chief of the Medical Corps, Bethesda, Md.

Capt. Peter M. Grant III has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral lower half. Grant is currently serving as deputy for Systems Engineering and Integration, Missile Defense Agency, Washington, DC.
