DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. Jeremiah W. Schmunk, 21, of Richland, Wash., died July 8 in Baghdad, Iraq, when his vehicle came under attack by rocket propelled grenade and small arms fire. Schmunk was assigned to the Company C, 1st Battalion, 161st Infantry Regiment, 1st Calvalry, Washington National Guard, Moses Lake, Wash.

The incident is under investigation.
