The Department of Defense announced today plans to award instrumentation grants totaling $2.3 million to eight tribal colleges and universities. These grants will be made under the fiscal 2004 DoD Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority Institutions Infrastructure Support Program. The grants will enhance programs and capabilities at these minority institutions in scientific disciplines critical to national security and the DoD.
This announcement is the result of merit competition for infrastructure support funding conducted for the Office of Defense Research and Engineering by the Army Research Office. The solicitation resulted in 16 proposals in response to a broad agency announcement issued in March 2004. The Army Research Office plans to award eight grants ranging from $141,000 to $393,000, only after written agreements are reached between the department and the institutions.
