U.S. AIR FORCE FIGHTER AIRCRAFT DEPLOY TO JORDAN
Following consultations with the Kingdom of Jordan and other states in the
Middle East, the Department of Defense announced today that the Air Force will
deploy 34 fighter aircraft to Jordan as part of an Airpower Expeditionary
Force. The AEF, scheduled to begin in mid-April, will include Air Force
support equipment and aircraft as follows: F-15s from the 1st Fighter Wing,
Langley AFB, Va.; F-16s from the 347th Wing, Moody AFB, Ga. and the 366th
Wing, Mountain Home AFB, Idaho; and KC-135s from the 96th Aerial Refueling
Wing, Fairchild AFB, Wash.
The AEF will provide additional land-based air forces to augment regional
assets while at the same time giving the Air Force an opportunity to work and
train with coalition partners in the region. The AEF deployment is temporary
and should be completed near the end of June, 1996.
