FLAG OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William J. Perry announced today that thePresident has nominated Rear Admiral James B. Perkins, III, U.S. Navy, forappointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as Commander MilitarySealift Command in Washington, D.C.
Rear Admiral Perkins is currently servingas Deputy Commander in Chief and Chief of Staff, U.S. Southern Command, QuarryHeights, Panama.
Since March 1, 1996, he has also been serving as ActingCommander in Chief of the Southern Command.
Rear Admiral Perkins was born August 28, 1942 in Long Branch, NewJersey.
