GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William J. Perry announced today that General Wayne A.Downing, United States Army, will be placed on the retired list in his currentgrade.
General Downing will retire after completion of more than 33 years ofactive service.
Since May 1993, he has been serving as the Commander in Chief,United States Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.
General Downing was born on May 10, 1940, in Peoria, Illinois.
