I am personally saddened to learn of the death today of a
great soldier and leader, Lieutenant General Cal Waller.
Cal Waller was a friend for many years. His distinguished
Army career encompassed two wars but, most especially, we
remember him with great admiration for his magnificent
performance as the Deputy Commander of DESERT STORM. He loved
the Army. His legacy is one of leadership, professionalism, and
a genuine love for the men and women in uniform -- his commitment
was always to them. Our military is better today because he was
a part of it.
On behalf of the Armed Forces, I extend deepest sympathy to
his wife, Marion, and to the Waller family.
