REVISED AERIAL DEMONSTRATION TEAM 1996 SCHEDULES RELEASED

The Department of Defense jet and parachute demonstration team schedules for the remainder of the 1996 season have been revised to reflect changes on the part of both the teams and airshow sponsors. The revised schedule announces the dates and locations of the teams' appearances beginning June 8 and continuing until November 1.

The annual demonstration season, which usually begins in March and concludes in November, was altered for numerous reasons including a change in leadership for the Navy Blue Angels, which canceled three airshow appearances in June. Airshow cancellations because of change or loss of sponsorship, or sites that were determined to be unsatisfactory, are other important reasons for alterations.

More than 200 requests are normally received for the demonstration teams. The number of supportable requests is limited by the length of the season, travel and training requirements, operational considerations, and seasonal meteorological conditions.

Demonstration sites are selected to support the objectives of the Department of Defense and the interests of the Armed Services with safety as the primary consideration. Performances greatly assist the recruiting and retention goals of the Services, enhance esprit de corps among uniformed men and women, and demonstrate the professional skills and capabilities of the U.S. Armed Forces to the American public and U.S. allies.
