General Officer Assignments

            The Chief of Staff, Army announces the assignment of the following officers:


            Maj. Gen. Byron S. Bagby, chief, Office of Military Cooperation, Egypt, United States Central Command to commandant, Joint Forces Staff College, National Defense University, Norfolk, Va.


            Maj. Gen. Jay W. Hood, special assistant to the Commanding General, United States Army Forces Command, Fort Meade, Md. to commanding general, Training Support Division (East), First United States Army, Fort Meade, Md.


            Maj. Gen. Virgil L. Packett II, deputy commanding general, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, N.C. to commanding general, United States Army Aviation Center and Fort Rucker, Fort Rucker, Ala.


            Brig. Gen. Albert Bryant, Jr., deputy commanding general/assistant commandant, United States Army Armor Center and Fort Knox, Fort Knox, Ky. to chief of staff, KFOR (main), Pristina, Film City, Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo.


            Col. (promotable) William B. Garrett III, executive officer to the Chief of Staff, Army, Washington, D.C. to deputy director for Operations, National Military Command Center, Operations Team Two, J-3, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.


            *Col. James C. Nixon, deputy director of Operations, J-3, United States Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. to director of Operations, Center for Special Operations, United States Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla.


            *Col. Thomas W. Spoehr, director of Materiel, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8, United States Army, Washington, D.C. to commandant, United States Army Chemical School, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.


* The assignment of these colonels to general officer positions should not be construed as the Senate's consent of their promotion nominations, and there will be no action to frock or promote them until Senate confirmation.
