DEFENSE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON WOMEN IN THE SERVICES TO VISIT SERVICEMEMBERS IN EUROPE
The Executive Committee of the Defense Advisory Committee on
Women in the Services will visit with military personnel at
commands in Italy, Hungary, Germany, and the United Kingdom from
July 12-28, 1996. Included in this trip will be an exchange of
cultural and professional information with the Directorate of
Women's Affairs in Jordan.
The purpose of the trip is to enhance the knowledge of
DACOWITS members concerning duty overseas and to note the
concerns of Service members on areas such as forces development
and utilization, equality management, and quality of life.
Findings from the trip will be reported to the Secretary of
Defense.
DACOWITS was established in 1951 by then Secretary of
Defense George C. Marshall. The committee is composed of 41
civilian members selected for their achievements in business, the
professions, and civil and public service. The purpose of the
committee is to advise the Secretary of Defense on policies and
matters relating to personnel, specifically those matters
relating to women in the Services. Since 1986, the committee has
visited over 100 overseas installations.
