General Shelton visits California and St. Louis, Missouri
Army Gen. Henry H. Shelton, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will depart Andrews Air Force Base, Md., on Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, for a visit to California. Shelton will meet with Marines at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and sailors in the San Diego area. A brief media availability is scheduled onboard the USS John C. Stennis at 3:50 p.m. PDT. Shelton will also visit the USS Coronado.
On Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, Shelton will fly to Long Beach, Calif., to visit the Boeing Airlift and Tanker Program facility. He will address Boeing employees and guests at a 10 a.m. PDT delivery ceremony for the Boeing/U.S. Air Force C-17 cargo aircraft, P-64, "The City of St. Louis." Shelton will then travel to the Beverly Hills Hotel where he will address a noon luncheon event of the Town Hall Los Angeles. Both events are open to the media.
Shelton departs Los Angeles on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, for St. Louis, Mo. He will receive the Military Order of the World Wars Distinguished Service Award and serve as the keynote speaker at the organization's 80th national convention banquet before returning to Washington, D.C.
