Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen and his wife, Janet Langhart Cohen, will unveil a permanent exhibit at the Pentagon dedicated to the USO (United Service Organizations) at11 a.m. EST on Thursday, Nov. 2. Participating in the event with the Cohens will be retired Army Gen. John H. Tilelli Jr., president and CEO of USO Worldwide Operations. Entertainers Mickey Rooney and Gerald McRaney, both of whom have contributed their talents to USO programs for American troops deployed overseas, will be present for the event.
This marks the first time that a private organization has been given permanent display space in the Pentagon and comes during the USO's 60th anniversary year. The exhibit includes a history of the USO, as well as the first interactive display in a Pentagon permanent exhibit. In unveiling the new exhibit, the Cohens and Tilelli will recognize the selfless service provided by the USO since 1941 to America's men and women in uniform. The exhibit is intended to reinforce the ongoing relationship between the USO and American troops and their families, both at home and abroad.
