Navy to Introduce Personal Financial Management Program

The Navy will introduce its new Personal Financial Management Program on Tues., Nov. 14, 2000, at about 1:30 p.m. EST, in the Pentagon Briefing Studio, Room 2E781. Charles Nemfakos, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Financial Management and Comptroller), will deliver remarks along with retired Adm. Jerome Johnson, chief executive officer and president of the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society.

This briefing will immediately follow the regular Department of Defense news briefing now scheduled at 1 p.m.

The Navy's Personal Financial Management (PFM) Program is a critical step in the Navy's ability to provide sailors with a sound foundation of financial management skills early in their careers. This is the first comprehensive and continuing financial education program of its kind for sailors. The initiative includes two days of professional instruction at "A" schools and apprentice training for boot camp graduates, as well as a PFM course for U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen. Outreach to junior sailors, spouses and command financial specialists is an integral part of the PFM program.

For additional information about the briefing or the PFM program call Lt. Cmdr. Ike Skelton at (703) 697-5342. For more information on the program contact Cmdr. Anthony Cooper, CNET Public Affairs, at (850) 452-4860.
