Gen. Henry H. Shelton, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is hosting a one-day conference today in the Pentagon for former chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The purpose of this meeting is to provide these former military leaders updates on current issues. Shelton also wants to receive the perspective of these former chairmen -- who have more than 200 years of military service among them -- on such issues as current operations, the budget, and the Quadrennial Defense Review.
The former Joint Chiefs in attendance are retired Navy Adms. Thomas H. Moorer and William J. Crowe, Jr., retired Air Force Gen. David C. Jones, and retired Army Gens. John W. Vessey, Colin L. Powell, and John M. Shalikashvili.
The group was last together to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the position of chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on August 9, 1999.
