Press Briefing Schedules for April 30, 1999

There will be a DoD press briefing on U.S. participation on NATO Operation Allied Force, Saturday, May, 1, 1999, at noon. There will be no briefing Sunday. Next week's daily briefings will begin at 2 p.m.

There are three briefings scheduled for today. All briefings take place in the Pentagon Briefing Room, 2E781. All times are Eastern Daylight Time.

At 10 a.m., Col. Mike Hackerson from the from the Army's deputy chief of staff for Operations, will provide a short information briefing on the AH-64A Apache, its capabilities and doctrinal employment. At 11 a.m., the Joint Staff will conduct a pre-brief of next week's force protection equipment demonstration at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va. The Joint Staff, in cooperation with the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Technology, will host more than 300 vendors displaying more than 700 force protection and security products at Quantico on Wednesday, May 5, 1999. Today's pre-brief will discuss plans for the event and arrangements for media coverage.

Ken Bacon, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, and Air Force Maj. Gen. Chuck Wald, vice director for Strategic Plans and Policy for the Joint Staff (J-5), will provide an operational update of U.S. participation in NATO Operation Allied Force today at 2 p.m. Today's briefing will include an update from Rear Adm. Thomas Wilson, the Joint Staff Director of Intelligence (J-2), on battle damage assessment from allied strikes against petroleum, oil and lubricant supplies within the Former Republic of Yugoslavia.
