Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen will host and be the principal speaker for the opening ceremony of the 1999 Armed Forces Day Joint Service Open House at Andrews Air Force Base, Md., Friday, May 14, 1999, at 10 a.m. (EDT).
Following the ceremony, there will be a photo opportunity when Cohen, former Sen. Robert Dole and Washington Redskins Coach Norv Turner meet the Army's Golden Knights parachute team.
The Armed Forces Day Opening Ceremony begins a three-day Joint Service Open House and Air Show at Andrews. This weekend salute in the National Capital Region to America's Service members is attended annually by more than 800,000 people, including members of the diplomatic corps, Congress, media, dignitaries and the general public from the Washington metropolitan area.
