Langston to be Keynote Speaker at Y2K Conference

Marvin Langston, deputy assistant secretary of Defense (C3I Policy and Implementation) and deputy chief information officer, will be the keynote speaker at a Department of Defense Year 2000 Technical Conference, June 22-24, to be held at the Springfield Hilton in Springfield, Va. Langston will speak at 9 a.m.(EDT) on June 22.

Co-sponsored by the Department of Defense Year 2000 Program Office and the Defense Information Systems Agency, the conference will focus on software testing as well as verification and validation of Y2K fixes. William Curtis, director of the DoD Year 2000 Program Office, explained the purpose of the conference by saying, "Realizing that exhaustive testing is rarely ever possible in a software system, we are sharing information of high-impact, cost-effective ideas that will increase the confidence we have fixed the Y2K problem."

The conference will feature experts from the Defense Information Systems Agency to discuss the Y2K readiness of systems used throughout the Department of Defense, industry experts to provide ideas for additional readiness activities, and software test experts. The conference agenda also includes presentations on contingency planning and consequence management.

The conference is open to media and contractor attendance. Reporters interested in attending should contact Sam Campagna, (703) 247-2544. Vendors interested in participating can make conference reservations through the National Defense Industrial Association, which is offering conference support.
