The Department of Defense will hold a press briefing Friday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m. EDT to announce Secretary Rumsfeld's recommendations for base realignment and closures (BRAC). The session will be held in the DoD Briefing Room, Pentagon 2E579.
Press representatives without a Pentagon building pass who wish to cover this event must be at the Corridor 3 pedestrian bridge entrance no later than 9 a.m. to be escorted. Two forms of identification will be required, one of which must be a photo ID.
Broadcast media will be allowed to park satellite vehicles in lanes 1 and 2 in the Pentagon South Parking Lot opposite Gate 5 beginning at 5 a.m. until midnight Friday. Parking will be available for personal vehicles of media personnel in lanes 2 and 3. All vehicles will be screened prior to entering the parking lot. Parking in these designated areas is strictly controlled; use of public transportation, MetroRail or MetroBus, is highly encouraged. Upon arrival, media representatives without building passes should still use the Corridor 3 entrance, not the Metro entrance. Camera crews who park vehicles in the designated South Parking lanes will be allowed to enter and exit the Pentagon through Gate 5.
Camera crews will be permitted to conduct stand-ups in a designated area adjacent to parking lanes 1 and 2 in South Parking until midnight Friday.
Due to space limitations in the Pentagon Briefing Room, seating will be on a first come first served basis, except for media who are members of the Pentagon press corps who will retain their assigned seating. Local TV stations are encouraged to use the network pool that will be available.
The BRAC recommendation information will be available online at the conclusion of the briefing at the following Web site: http://www.defenselink.mil/brac/ .
