Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen will be the keynote speaker at the Re-designation ceremony and name change of United States Atlantic Command (USACOM) to the United States Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) at 2:45 p.m. EDT, Thursday, October 7, 1999. Gen. Hugh Shelton, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff and Adm. Harold Gehman, Commander in Chief, U.S. Joint Forces Command, will also speak. The redesignation of USACOM is one of several changes outlined in the revised Unified Command Plan 1999 which was recently approved.
The ceremony, beginning at 2:00 p.m.EDT, will be held outside the USJFCOM Headquarters building NH-14, Norfolk, VA. (Inclement weather ceremony will be moved to H.S.A. Gym)
Secretary Cohen will hold a media availability following the ceremony, at 3:25 p.m. EDT.
