Full Honors Arrival Ceremony for Chief of the General Staff of the Republic of Turkey
Gen. Henry H. Shelton, U.S. Army, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will host a joint service full honors arrival ceremony at the Pentagon River Parade Field, at 9 a.m. (EDT), Thursday, July 16, 1998, for Gen. Ismail H. Karadayi, chief of the General Staff, Republic of Turkey. During the ceremony, Karadayi will be awarded the U.S. Legion of Merit. In the afternoon, Karadayi will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns, Arlington National Cemetery at 2:45 p.m. (EDT).
Karadayi arrived in the United States on Monday, July 13, 1998, for a five-day official visit. He will visit military installations in the Norfolk, Va., area on Wednesday, July 15. During the time in Washington, Karadayi will meet with senior U.S. defense, government and military officials. The official visit will end on July 17.
