The Department of Defense (DoD) will host a press conference in the DoD Press Studio (Room 2E781), at 11 a.m. (EDT), on July 21, announcing the results of its investigation into allegations regarding use of sarin nerve agent to kill defectors during "Operation Tailwind", a covert military action in Laos during the Vietnam war.
The allegations were first aired in a CNN report broadcast on June 7, 1998, followed by a print report published in Time magazine in its June 15, 1998 edition.
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen will release the report at the press conference and be followed by Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Rudy de Leon and key staff members, who will answer questions concerning the investigation.
