Gen. Shelton Will Host a Ceremony in Honor of Gen. John M. Shalikashvili
Gen. Henry H. Shelton, U.S. Army, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will host a ceremony in honor of Gen. John M. Shalikashvili, U.S. Army (Ret.), at 10 a.m. (EST), Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in the Pentagon's Eighth Corridor.
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen, Shelton and Shalikashvili will make brief remarks followed by an unveiling of the corridor display that depicts Shalikashvilis 39-year military career. He served as the 13th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from Oct. 25, 1993, to Sept. 30, 1997.
Due to the limited space in the area of the ceremony, media coverage of the event will, by necessity, be pooled. The commercial portion of the pool will consist of, at a maximum, one wire service correspondent and one photographer, one television correspondent, one television camera person and one audio person, and one radio correspondent. The DoD portion of the pool will consist of, at a maximum, one correspondent, one television camera person and one still photographer. If no representative from any one or more of these categories is present, the total pool size will be reduced accordingly. It is the responsibility of the media to coordinate before the ceremony as to whom will fill each of these pool positions and how information, videotape and audiotape will be distributed following the ceremony.
All pool participants should be in the Pentagon's Eighth Corridor no later than 9:35 a.m. (EST). The point of contact for any questions or additional information is Ms. Joan Asboth of JCS Public Affairs at (703) 697-4272.
