Global Hawk Roll Out on Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at San Diego, Calif.
The Global Hawk high altitude endurance unmanned air vehicle
will be rolled out on Thursday, Feb. 20, at Teledyne Ryan
Aeronautical's San Diego, Calif., facility. Senior DoD speakers
include: Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and
Technology Paul Kaminski; Commander, U.S. Air Force Air Combat
Command, Gen. Richard E. Hawley; and Principal Deputy to the
Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Lt. Gen.
George K. Muellner. The event, which is open to the media,
includes a media backgrounder at 9 a.m. (PST), the rollout
ceremony at 10 a.m. (PST), and a media availability with senior
DoD, company, and program officials immediately following the
ceremony.
The Global Hawk is one of two air platforms being
developed under the High Altitude Endurance UAV Program managed
by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency for the Defense
Airborne Reconnaissance Office. Global Hawk is a 24,000 pound
vehicle with a 116-foot wing span. It carries a synthetic
aperture radar and electro-optic/infrared sensors for long-range
surveillance and broad area coverage imaging capability to
support the theater commander.
