Marine Corps Chemical-Biological Incident Response Force
The Marine Corps' Chemical-Biological Incident Response
Force (CBIRF), based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., will conduct a
demonstration of its unique capabilities in the Washington, D.C.
area on April 30, 1997.
The demonstration will take place
adjacent to the Rayburn House Office Building starting at 12 p.m.
(EDT).
Following a brief by Lt. Col. A. J. Corbett, the unit's
commanding officer, the CBIRF will demonstrate its ability to
effect consequence management following the simulated detonation
of a chemical-biological terrorist device.
Afterwards, there
will be a display of equipment and an opportunity to speak with
CBIRF personnel.
The CBIRF consists of specially trained
personnel and specialized equipment suited for operations in a
wide range of contingencies.
Through detection, decontamination
and emergency medical services, the CBIRF capabilities are
intended to minimize the effects of a chemical or biological
incident.
