Gen. John M. Shalikashvili, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will depart Andrews AFB, Md. on Monday, July 7. In Warsaw on July 10, he is scheduled to join President Clinton for a state dinner hosted by Poland's President Kwasnieski following the NATO Summit held in Madrid on July 8-9.
Prior to visiting Poland, the chairman will travel to Den Hague, The Netherlands, for a counterpart visit hosted by General Henk van den Breemen, Chief of Defense Staff, Royal Netherlands Armed Forces. During the two-day visit, General Shalikashvili will meet with host country officials to discuss issues of mutual interest. A joint media availability is scheduled at the Dutch Ministry of Defense early Wednesday afternoon, July 9.
General Shalikashvili will depart The Netherlands on Wednesday, July 9 for Stuttgart, Germany. On Thursday, July 10, he will serve as the presiding official at the 11 a.m. farewell ceremony in honor of General George A. Joulwan, departing Commander in Chief, United States European Command.
On Friday, July 11, General Shalikashvili will attend the farewell ceremony for the Supreme Allied Commander Europe in Mons, Belgium at 11 a.m. The chairman is scheduled to return to Washington on Friday evening.
