Secretary of Defense William J. Perry will address a symposium exploring the
question of "U.S. - Japan - Peoples Republic of China Tripartite Relations:
Foundations for a Stable Pacific Community?", at 1:15 p.m. (EST), tomorrow, in
Room 155, Marshall Hall, Fort McNair, Washington, D.C. His topic will cover
U.S. security strategies for this region.
As a result, the Pentagon Press briefing, regularly scheduled on Tuesday for
1:30 p.m., will be delayed until 2:30 p.m. The session will feature a short
presentation by Timothy G. Connelly, principal deputy assistant to the
Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict, on
BosniaFile, part of an ongoing effort to enhance mine awareness training for
American Forces participating in Operation Joint Endeavor. Following the
briefing, Kenneth Bacon, assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public
Affairs will take questions on current defense issues.
The event is open to the media. Live audio of the speech will be aired on
