A large-scale chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear training exercise will be held at the Pentagon on Wednesday, May 19, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT. The exercise, called "Gallant Fox II," will be staged near the heating and refrigeration plant on the Pentagon Reservation and is open for media coverage. The purpose of this training event is to enable the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA), and its federal, state, and local training partners to exercise emergency response units in a duty-day, real world scenario. It will provide valuable training for PFPA to better serve occupants of the Pentagon.
There will not be an evacuation of the Pentagon during this exercise. Only pre-designated workforce employees will conduct an internal assembly as part of the exercise.
Media representatives who wish to cover the drill must be at the Boundary Channel Parking Lot no later than 9:45 a.m. They also should have two forms of identification, one of which to show proof of media affiliation. Parking for broadcast satellite vehicles will be available between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Boundary Channel Drive located on the sidewalk between the two large flagpoles. All media vehicles parking in the area of the exercise will be subject to a security check. There will be limited media (car or van) parking on the South Connector Road before 9:45a.m. on May 19.
The Pentagon Metro Station will not shut down during this exercise; trains and buses will continue to run as scheduled. The Boundary Channel Parking Lot will be closed starting at midnight on May 19 until 2:30 p.m. In addition, the South Parking Connector Road from North of the River Terrace to Boundary Channel Drive will be closed at 9:45 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on May 19.
Media and the general public should heed signs posted by the Virginia Department of Transportation and the State Police that an exercise will be in progress on the Pentagon Reservation.
