No. 066-P:03/07/96:Assistant Secretary of Defense for Healt
Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs Stephen C. Joseph, M.D.,
will lead a delegation of Department of Defense (DOD) medical personnel to
China from March 9 to March 17, 1996. The purpose of the visit is to establish
the basis for collaborative efforts in medical research between the DoD and the
Chinese Peoples' Liberation Army (PLA).
The delegation includes Maj. Gen. George K. Anderson, USAF, MC, deputy
assistant secretary of Defense for Health Services Operations and Readiness,
Rear Adm. William McDaniel, USN, MC, command surgeon for the U.S. Pacific
Command, and other military medical specialists.
Areas of research to be presented and discussed include; infectious diseases
and vaccines, aerospace medicine, preventive medicine, diving medicine,
environmental medicine, and casualty wound care.
Joseph's delegation will meet with senior Chinese military medical officials in
Beijing and visit various PLA medical institutions in Beijing, Shanghai, and
Xian.
