General Shalikashvili to Depart for Gulf Region May 25
Gen. John M. Shalikashvili, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of
Staff, will depart Andrews Air Force Base on Saturday, May 25,
1996, for a visit to Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Jordan.
In each of the countries, he will be the guest of his
counterparts, Maj. Gen. Ali Muhammad Hasan al-Mumin, chief of
staff, Kuwaiti Armed Forces; Gen. Mohammad al-Saleh Al-Hammad,
chief of the Joint Staff, Saudi Arabia; Maj. Gen. Shaykh Abdullah
bin Salman Al-Khalifa, chief of staff, Bahrain Defense Force; and
Gen. Abdel Hafiz Marei al-Kaabneh, chairman, Joint Chiefs of
Staff, Jordan.
He will also meet with senior government officials in the
host countries and will consult with senior US military and
civilian leaders, as well as visit with US military forces in the
region. General Shalikashvili will return to Andrews on May 31.
