A funeral service for Navy World War II hero Capt. David McCampbell will be held tomorrow at Arlington National Cemetery, Old Post Chapel, Fort Myer at 1 p.m. EDT.

McCampbell, affectionately known as the Ace of Aces, was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1945 for intercepting a formation of 60 Japanese aircraft in 1944. With just one other aircraft to assist him, he shot down nine aircraft and forced the remaining aircraft to turn back.

McCampbell was one of only two Navy pilots to be awarded the Medal of Honor for air to air combat. He died June 30 at the age of 86.
