Air Force to Announce Contractors for Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle
Secretary of the Air Force Sheila E. Widnall will announce
the two contract winners for the Evolved Expendable Launch
Vehicle, at 4:30 p.m. (EST) Friday, Dec. 20, 1996, in the DoD
Studio, room 2E781, The Pentagon.
The EELV's objective is to
improve the affordability and operability of the nation's
expendable space launch systems beyond the turn of the century.
It will replace the current fleet of medium and heavy launch
systems (Delta, Atlas and Titan) with a single, modular family of
launch vehicles.
