The Department of Defense and Lockheed Martin will unveil the low observable
Tier III Minus unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in a ceremony on June 1, 1995, at
2 p.m. (PDT), in Palmdale, Calif. The Tier III Minus UAV is known by the
nickname DarkStar. The ceremony is open to the media.
DarkStar is a low observable, tactical reconnaissance UAV that will operate
within the current military force structure and with existing Command, Control,
Communications, Computer and Intelligence (C4I) equipment. The DarkStar UAV
will provide affordable, near real time, continuous, all weather, wide area
surveillance in support of tactical commanders.
Media representatives wishing to attend the ceremony should contact Jim
Ragsdale or Ellen Bendell at the Lockheed Martin communications office in
Palmdale at (805) 572-4155, fax (805) 572-4163. To expedite clearance into the
Palmdale facility, media representatives who expect to attend are asked to
provide Lockheed Martin with their name, affiliation and Social Security number
prior to the ceremony date.
