The Ministerial provides the Secretary an opportunity to get to know his
counterparts in the Western Hemisphere better and to initiate a dialogue on
defense and security issues. The Ministerial is being held in the spirit of
the Miami Summit and complements the process of hemispheric integration begun
there.
The U.S. delegation will be led by Secretary Perry and will include Mr.

The agenda for the meetings, which was determined largely through consultations
with governments in the region, includes Transparency and Confidence and
Security Building Measures, Defense Cooperation, and Armed Forces in 21st
Century Democracies.
To facilitate press coverage of the Ministerial, a press center will be located
in the Commonwealth Hall of the Woodlands Hotel in Williamsburg. A press
center information desk will operate 24 hours a day to assist all credentialed
