No. 069-03 June 13, 2003
CJCS Flag Day Activities and Travel

Air Force Gen. Richard B. Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, departs Washington on Saturday, June 14, 2003, for a visit to New York. In support of Operation Tribute Freedom (OTF), he will throw out the first pitch for the New York Yankees/St. Louis Cardinals baseball game at Yankee Stadium, Bronx, N.Y. His participation is one of the Defense Department's initiatives to welcome home troops serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and in the Global War On Terrorism. June 14 also marks Flag Day and ten major league baseball games will feature tributes and activities to recognize the men and women in uniform for their selfless service to the nation.

Myers departs New York on Sunday, June 15, 2003, for Europe. He will travel to Spain, Romania, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia for meeting with counterparts and government officials. It will be an opportunity to thank them for support during operations in the Gulf region and to discuss issues of mutual concern.

Myers returns to Washington, D.C., on Thursday, June 19, 2003.
