The Department of Defense (DoD) will host a “Spirit of Service” event on Wednesday, May 9 at 11:30 a.m. EDT in the Pentagon Center Courtyard. All DoD employees in the National Capital Region are invited to attend.
The event in celebration of Public Service Recognition Week, May 6-12, will feature remarks by Ashton B. Carter, deputy secretary of defense, and Michael L. Rhodes, the director of administration and management. A concert by the U.S. Air Force Max Impact show band and a reception will follow the ceremony.
Representatives from each of the military services and the Joint Staff will recognize 34 outstanding civilian public servants across the DoD who display the core qualities of honor, integrity and excellence in their everyday service. Presenters include:
Michael B. Donley, secretary of the Air Force
Raymond E. Mabus Jr., secretary of the Navy
Thomas R. Lamont, assistant secretary of the Army, manpower & reserve affairs
Vice Adm. Harry Harris, assistant to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
