Media Briefing on the Results of an Investigation into the April 11 Mishap of an MV-22B in Morocco
Lieutenant General Robert E. Schmidle Jr., Deputy Commandant for Marine Corps Aviation, will brief the media today at 3 p.m. EDT in the Pentagon Press Briefing Room (2E973) on the results of an investigation into the April 11 mishap of an MV-22B in Morocco.
The II Marine Expeditionary Force recently completed the investigation, which has determined the aircraft did not suffer from a mechanical or material failure and there were no problems with the safety of the aircraft.
The mishap killed two Marines and injured two others who were part of the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (Reinforced) 261, based at Marine Corps Air Station New River, in Jacksonville, N.C. VMM-261 is currently attached to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit and was operating from the amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima at the time of the incident.
